In the fall of 2011 I ran in a half marathon just outside of Portland Oregon. I figured while I was out on the west coast why not make a true vacation out of it. So I flew into San Francisco and took 10 days to drive up the coast to Fort Stevens State Park, just outside of Astoria, Oregon. I wandered through Napa Valley, the towering Redwoods of California, Crater Lake Oregon, and Astoria (also known as the home town of The Goonies and Short Circuit) before heading inland to Portland to run my race.
